The non-profit continues to be an all volunteer organization including the twelve members Board of Directors with countless hours of volunteer labor hours needed each week. “It takes 14 volunteers each weekday to staff the office, coordinate the volunteers, package the food and deliver the meals to our six routes throughout the county. We have the most dedicated volunteers that I have ever served with” commented Lisa Himes, Chair of the Board of Directors for the organization. “We have amazing volunteers but can always use more volunteers to serve as we continue to grow, especially route drivers.” Himes also commented that the organization is looking to expand the number we serve in the county and to please call the office if you know of a senior adult in need of our services.

Meals on Wheels is not just about serving a hot lunch to a senior in need but about building relationships with our clients. For many of our clients, our volunteer driver is the only contact they may have for the day. Out of a desire to help our clients with their daily struggles they may face which include the decline in the economy, Meals on Wheels is excited to announce a new Client Services Committee has been formed. It is the goal of the committee to gather resources available to our clients that other area agencies may offer as well as to form new partnerships with other non-profits . The Committee is looking to involve other groups in the area to include scout troops, youth groups, Sunday school classes and any other service organizations to bring our clients a smile as they read a card a youth wrote to them as they enjoy their hot lunch. The new committee will be looking to different groups and organizations to provide cards, hygiene kits, food bags, craft items, etc. on a regular basis instead of just at the holiday season. Most recently, a Kid’s on Mission group from a local Church delivered the meals and visited with some of the clients which one of the clients said “made their day” commented Himes.
