About Us

Who We Are

Fluvanna Meals on Wheels, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2007 with the first meals delivered in February 2008. At that time, we served 8 clients on 4 routes. Today, we serve more than 80 clients on 10 routes. Since our beginning, we have served more than 225,000 meals to 560 clients!

We Fight Hunger – We Alleviate Isolation

Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver a hot nutritious meal, a warm smile, and a safety and wellness check so that seniors and adults with disabilities who are homebound may remain healthy and living in their own homes.

Meals are delivered at lunchtime every Monday through Friday, and we currently have an active volunteer force of more than 200 volunteers who pack and deliver meals to clients in need of our services in the County of Fluvanna.

We are both down and I am very sick and without the help of Meals on Wheels I could not make it. Even not able to get to the door and we thank the drivers for all their help. The food is real good and hot. Thanks for all you do. May God Bless you all.” – M.B.

We Partner with the Community

We purchase our food locally from Wahoo BBQ. They do a fantastic job preparing a healthy hot meal for our clients each weekday.

We provide non-perishable weekend meals in partnership with Palmyra and Cunningham United Methodist Church so that our most vulnerable clients have food for 7 days a week.

We partner with FSPCA and Caring for Creatures to provide our clients with pet food which helps keep their beloved pet fed and in the home.

Our most recent partnership with Fluvanna Habitat for Humanity will help our clients with some needed repairs on their home that they cannot afford and will help them to age in place.

“Thank you for the wonderful job the meals on wheels program is doing for my mom.  She tells me how much she enjoys talking to the people who bring her food and how she gets little surprises sometimes like homemade paper place mats and butterflies from local kids in her box.

FMOW Pet Food Donations

Research has shown that pet ownership can provide important forms of social and emotional support for older adults that can reduce distress, loneliness and improve overall quality of life. For so many seniors on a fixed income, the expense of pet food made buying enough of it impossible.

If you would like to donate pet food, please drop off 20 pound or smaller bags of cat or dog food at our office the last week of the month.
